The Electrical & Electronics department was established during the year 1958 with the objective of offering 3 years Diploma course in Electrical Engineering. Later in the year 1990 the department was renamed as Electrical & Electronics Engineering due to the advanced technology of electronics in electrical field. It provides 3 years full time i.e 6 semesters programme. All outgoing students are placed both in the Electrical field as well as the Electronics field.
The department provides various training programmes for the sister institutes & various organizations such as K.P.T.C.L, K.E.B, & K.P.C etc. The programmes provide technical skills for the duration ranging from one year to two years. Every year students take admission as external candidates who come from various industries like Telcon, Marco Polo, Tata Motors, Railways, Mysore Kirloskar, NGEF, K.P.T.C.L etc. Karnataka Power Corporation has deputed their staff for higher education, who can complete their diploma for 3 years & get promoted as Junior Engineers in their department. The department also offers wide range of need based courses in Electrical field for the Community development.
The department has sanctioned intake of 60 students for I semester every year & presently it houses 182 students spread over 3 semesters. Apart from this there are students who have registered themselves as External candidates from various industries & organizations.
At present Sri S.M Badiger is working as Head of the Department with 6 FT Lecturers, 2 PT Lecturers & sub staff as Instructor, Mechanics, and Helpers. The department teaching staffs have undergone various training programmes for upgrading their knowledge as per the new curriculums. They have also attended various seminars & upgraded themselves with higher qualifications in the form of Post Graduation in Electric field.
The department is well equipped with all the laboratories as per the curriculum prescribed by the Department of Technical Education. The department has all modern equipments for various laboratories like Basic Electrical Lab, Electronics Lab, Power Electronics Lab, Electrical Wiring, Work shop, Electrical Machines Lab, PLC & Motor Control Lab.
The department also has well equipped, Networked & Internet Connected computer lab housing 25 computers with printers, scanners & U.P.S and also, well equipped department library which is maintained by the students and for the students. The department has received a grant of Rs. 5.00 Lakhs under A.I.C.T.E Modrob’s scheme in the year 2005-06 and again Rs. 5.00 Lakhs in the year 2011-12 for the modernization of existing laboratories.
The department has a tradition of getting ranks every year and giving good results in such a manner that almost 95% of the students are well placed either pursuing higher degree or getting employed in industries or self employed. The final year students prepare good projects according to needs of present industries and government sectors & also where in they have bagged many prizes every year in state and national level project exhibitions.
